Cloudflare shipped decision models that answer with probabilities, not prose

Clef and Clef-flash, released 1 October 2026 under Apache 2.0, take application state plus a typed question schema and return one probability per option in a single forward pass, with 64k context and vision support. Cloudflare's own changelog puts Clef-flash at 38.8 ms median and Clef at 209.3 ms.

CHAPTER 1Picked for Explorer

The 60-second version

Cloudflare released two open-weight decision models on 1 October 2026: Clef at 27B and Clef-flash at 9B, both post-trained from Qwen bases. They answer typed questions with scores rather than paragraphs, and they run on Workers AI or on hardware you already own.

Apache 2.0 weightsBoth models are on Hugging Face and Workers AI under a permissive licence with no copyleft.
Two sizes, one designClef is post-trained from Qwen3.8-27B; Clef-flash from the 9B Qwen3.5 model.
Structured answers onlyEach question type returns one logit per allowed option, turned into probabilities by a softmax.
Vision in the request pathImages and video frames can be part of the state a decision is made about.

Reproduce one decision yourself

1Load Clef-flash on hardware you already have, since its memory floor is far below the 27B model's.
2Score the same question set twice against different state and check whether the ordering holds.
3Construct a case where the right answer is no option at all, and see if the distribution admits it.
